This is the Brazilian Platform website for the Digital Radio Mondiale - DRM standard.

Radio RFI/TDF transmitted in shortwave in DRM from French Guiana to Brazil

In an initiative by Communications Ministry (Minicom), the University of Brasilia (UnB) and the National Communication Company (EBC), DRM test transmissions are starting in the coming weeks towards Brazil and origination from RFI/TDF station in the French Guiana. The portuguese broadcast is thanks to National FM Radio from Brasilia.

Currently the following DRM transmissions already happened in 17.495 and 21.495 kHz.

Perfect receptions (> 98% decoding rate) were obtained in the District Council (DF), São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Santa Catarina and Paraná.

Brazil might have 100% of its territory covered by just 4 transmitters DRM30 working in SFN

In a recent discussion at DRM Brasil mailing list, Carlos Mourato from DW de Sines, Portugal, said:

"Em times I already said in a forum that, in order to Brazil get a full coverage,
4 stations with 100kW or 200kW in SFN using DRM30. One in Belem, another in
Recife or Joao Pessoa, another in the west border in Porto Velho at Rondonia
and another in the South, Porto Alegre or around!!!... Everything in SFN and Brazil
would be covered with all the quality. Imagine how many 4kW FM transmitters
would be needed to cover all the country (including the Amazon)! This makes

Event about spectrum management will focus on digital radio

During 1st and 2nd of December at Unicamp (University of Campinas) will happen the ESC Conference (Spectrum, Society and Communication) to debate Digital Radio in Brazil.

DRM talks/workshops in November

We'll give two workshops/talks this month about DRM and the process of evaluation of Digital Radio Systems for the SBRD (Sistema Brasileiro de Radio Digital, Brazilian Digital Radio System).

The workshops/talks will happen in these events: Fenarcom[1], a major ham-radio meeting from 12 to 15 November, and the Ministry of Culture "Brazilian Digital Culture Forum"[2] to be held in Sao Paulo from 14 to 17 November.

The first talk will be in November 14th starting at 2pm, and the second will happen at 11:30am November 17.

Brazil Forms Body to Choose Standard

BRASÍLIA, Brazil has established a new body, Sistema Brasileiro de Rádio Digital, and charged it with determining the best digital radio technology for the country.

Both the U.S. iBiquity HD Radio and the European Digital Radio Mondiale systems are being tested in Brazil. In the initial tests, the DRM30 system proved the more favorable for AM transmissions in the medium-wave and tropical bands.
